PUMA Drives Provide Engineered Solutions To Meet Your Mixing Needs
PDC Machines proudly introduces its PUMA Drive line of magnetically driven
agitator
systems. By using a single static seal instead of a dynamic or mechanical seal
between the drive and the vessel, PUMA Drives have set the standard for environmental safety.
Our technology assures leak-free, contamination-free and emissions-free mixing at high pressures
and temperatures. It also protects the health of your personnel and the environment and
ensures the integrity of your product. PUMA Drives are an ideal choice when working
with toxic, hazardous, highly corrosive or high-purity materials.
The operating concept for the PUMA Drive is surprisingly simple yet thoroughly effective. Drawing on proprietary
technology, PDC utilizes a magnetic coupling between an outer magnet assembly - driven
by a motor - and an inner magnet assembly, separated by the PUMA Drive tube. When the outer
magnet assembly rotates the torque is magnetically transferred through the stationary drive tube
to the inner magnets attached to the drive shaft.
|
Belt Drive vs. Direct Drive
PUMA Drive's are quick and easy to maintain resulting in less down time and low operating costs.
Within minutes, the PUMA Drive can be disassembled, for cleaning the drive tube and inner shaft
or replacing the bearings, then reassembled without ever needing to touch the V-belt drive
assembly. In contrast it is cumbersome and time consuming to perform the same service on a
direct drive magnetic

Compatibility to meet your processing needs:
PDC PUMA Drives can be manufactured from most
machinable alloys to ensure compatibility with the intended process media. These include:
Metals
- 300 series SS, Hastelloy®, Monel®, Inconel®, titanium,
and many more machinable alloys for use in corrosive processes. Non-metallic coatings are
available.
Static seal types
- All types of elastomeric o-rings
- Spiral wound gaskets from acceptable alloys and fillers
- Lens rings from high temperature applications
Bearing materials
- Carbon graphite
- Various grades of Rulon®
- Non-lubricated, anti-friction ball bearings for special applications

A WIDE SPECTRUM OF MIXING SOLUTIONS
PUMA Drives offer an extensive selection of custom-designed impellers to meet your mixing needs.
|
|
Propeller
These impellers are suitable when blending low to medium viscous materials at high speeds to achieve solid suspension or dispersion. They are also suitable for generating the transfer for generating the transfer of heat between the process and reactor wall. Propellers are availble in multiblade configurations.
|
Turbine
Turbines are a good, general purpose Impeller choice. Availble with straight, pitched or retreat blades, they are ideal for processes with low viscosity and systended solids. When heat transfer withe the vessel wall is required with consistent performance from low to high speeds, the turbine is a fine choice.
|
Anchor
Anchor-type impellers provide the most economical mixing of highly viscous materials at low speeds. Anchors require less horsepower thanhelical ribbons do for agitation, and the upright length can vary as required. Teflon wipers can be mounted on the anchor to provide complete tank mixing.

Exceptional Value
PDC
Machines has refined the PUMA Drive magnetic mixer to the highest level of technical achievement
and quality of construction. This results in a mixer requiring infrequent service, is simple to
operate and maintain, and will provide many years of reliable low-cost operation. The advantages
of the PUMA Drive magnetic mixer include:
- Straight-Through Bore Drive Tube:
- All three bearings are identical, eliminating the need for multiple spare parts
- Perfect bearing alignment extends bearing life and intervals between maintenance
- Minimal vibration allows high-speed operation to 5000 RPM (on designated units)
- Straight-through bore makes cleaning simple and easy

- Air-cooled drive tube isolates the heat of the vessel and removes the
heat generated by the eddy currents of the magnets to retain the torque rating of the drive
during operation
- V-Belt Drive uses no rotary or mechanical seals, never needs lubrication,
is simple to maintain
- Proprietary speed sensor technology directly and accurately measures the
drive shaft rotation and detects the event of a magnetic coupling failure
- Fixed or Variable Speed Drives uses AC or DC motors for any electric
service, or air-driven motors

|
Complete and Flexible Integration
Electrical Codes and Standards
- Compliance with NEC or IEC regulations for any hazardous area environment
Customized Controls
- Speed-control panels with digital speed display and programmable VFD with input and output
control communications with customer's DCS
- PDC systems engineer can provide system solutions from simple to complex integration
issues
Installation and Mounting
- Special Adapter flanges and brackets to mate with any tank, vessel, or mounting
configuration
|
Applications
For many years PUMA magnetic mixers or magnetic stirrers have been
used in laboratories, pilot plants and small-scale production facilities for batch and
continuously stirred vessel (CSTR) operation. PUMA magnetic drive mixing systems are ideal for:
Food Products
- Multiphase Catalytic Reactions
|
Helical Ribbon
Helical ribbon impellers provide the highest-quality low-speed mixing for high viscosity liquieds and solids. Thrust can be provided in either upwards or downward directions. Uniform bleding throughtout the volume of the vessel is easily achieved with this choice. Either single or double helixes can be provided.

The Flexible Connection:
With PUMA Drives, the Options are Endless....
We work hand in hand with our customers to provide the optimal mounting solution. PUMA Drives come with standard, threaded vessel connection that must be machined into an existing vessel. Pdc will custom manufacture alternative mounting solutions to accommodate specific customer requirements.
These Include, but are not bound by:
ANSI flanged mounting arrangements
Custom flanged or threaded arrangements to adapt to existing openings or nozzle styles.
Sanitary connections.
